The Giving Tree | Shel Silverstein
Pickpick

This has always been my favorite book. It taught me to share with others and not take too much from someone, even if they allow you to have it. Sharing is such a big thing in kindergarten so I think this would be a really great book for younger readers

I loved this book growing up and I think it‘s really special. The illustrations within the book are amazing and I think children notice those the most, especially younger ones who haven‘t fully grasped how to read yet

I Am Enough | Grace Byers
Pickpick

I absolutely love this book, it really teaches children that although we all might not look alike, we still shine bright and are loved. Every child needs to know that they‘re loved by someone. 🤍

This book was so heart wrenching to read for me, it touched on so many horrible things that occurred during World War II but also helped bring to life about what so many innocent people went through during that time. It tells a really horrible but captivating story that I think young adults would enjoy reading.

This book has some words in spanish so I think it could introduce students some important words in a different language and open student's minds to a different culture. It doesn't have a lot of dialogue but it still brings a really powerful message.

This is a really great book to teach students what kind of horrible things slaves went through back then and captures just how much determination, hard work, and empathy Harriet Tubman had for everyone. It shows how selfless she was and teaches students what it looks like to be an amazing human and put others before yourself.

This book is about a desert flower that blooms for only one night a year as the sun sets over the Sonoran desert in Arizona and wildlife gather to witness the special annual event. This book also has a lot of really cool illustrations that I think children would enjoy looking at while reading.

As I read, I kept thinking about all of the fun things that my little sister and I used to do when we played outside and explored the woods behind my house.

This is a really cute book about nature and trees but also teaches students about different kinds of trees and what they can find when they explore outside. I think it could interest a lot of kids to play outside more. The illustrations were also very realistic and used a lot of warm tone colors which I thought fit the theme of the book really well.

I know a lot of students that I've had in the past are really into dinosaurs and love learning about each of them and where they come from so I think this would be a really great read aloud option for any elementary grade. It could definitely be a fun and engaging book for students to read since they can connect and use past knowledge that they might've learned themselves.
