I think this story is wonderful. But I do believe it would be difficult for some readers who have little to no background on the subject. It includes numerous places and words that are not in English and without knowledge of could be confusing to readers.
Homeless Bird by Gloria Whelan was published in 2000 and is a national book award winner. This story is a chapter book that follows the life of a 13 year old girl, Koly. She is married at 13 to a very sick boy for her dowry to be able to send him to the Ganges river in India to heal him. Unfortunately he dies and she is left a widow at 13, very undesirable in her culture. The story unfolds as she finds herself and what to do for herself.

This story is great for young girls who are interested in inventing and stem. I really loved the illustrations that highlight her life.
This story published in 2019 highlights the double life of Hedy Lamarr. She was both an actress and inventor. The story includes quotes from Hedy‘a life that highlight her own beliefs in her work. It not only talks about her life in Hollywood but also her life in Austria where she was born.

Written by Katheryn Russel-Brown and illustrated by Eric Velasquez, this book is about Shirley Chisholm. It was published in 2020 and highlights the life of Shirley and the many firsts she accomplished. She used her voice to speak up for people who had little to no voice. It talks about her trailblazing career in politics and her as an overall person. I think it is a great read for children learning about pivotal leaders.

Published in 2013, this story describes the life of Horace Pippin. It shows how he overcame hardships that allowed him to grow and continue to paint after he was injured in world war 1. He is a great inspiration. This story taught me much about Horace Pippin.

Published in 2013 this story highlights the life of Nelson Mandela. He fought for freedom and desegregation of South Africa. He was prisoned again and again and never gave up. Nelson Mandela is a great role model and leader, I think this story was great. The illustrations were also beautiful.

It highly lights his important moments but also some of his flaws. I think it was a great representation of a biography.
