It's not everyday I can read a book set in my little part of the world so I'm a bit biased here. The local history about whaling at Tangalooma in the 1960s was eye opening.
This is a moving coming of age story about a boy grieving the death of one parent while trying to bond with the other, his hard-as-nails father who takes him to learn the gruesome whaling trade.
TBH, this book fell just a tad short but the local flavour elevated it for me.
Marchpane Shown👆🏻is a pic of what the area looks like today (as opposed to one of dead whales and such) but the book is entirely set in the 1950s and 1960s. (edited) 7y
