The Glorious Flight: Across the Channel With Louis Bleriot is a B PB and Caldecott winner written by Alice and Martin Provensen. The book tells the story of Louis Bleriot and his flight across the English channel on July 25th 1909, it shows his trials and tribulations leading up to what will become a glorious flight indeed. I would use this book in a RA or RT setting along with showing the class a few of my dad's model airplane collection.

JRone This book would be great for a read aloud. It has a lot of information in it so I think the lesson plan where they get to draw a picture would be super fun for them! 5y
JennaMichelleCohn This is awesome! It‘d be cool to have kids make their own paper airplanes and using the wings and body and folds and what not as places to answer things about setting, characters, etc. 5y
BRaulerson What a great way to read a biography through a picture Pb! 5y
haleyklein This looks like a really powerful read! Thank you for sharing the link as well! 5y

Alice and Martin Provensen‘s “The Glorious Flight: Across the channel with Louis Bleriot” is a B picture book that won a Caldecott in 1984, and it would fit perfectly in a S lesson about aviation. Bleriot was a very determined French aviator who flew over the English Channel in 1909. I liked to share an inspirational excerpt, “His flight across the English Channel demonstrated to the world that barriers of land and sea no longer existed for

AJones airplanes” (Provensen & Provensen, 1983). His persistence was a remarkable development during the early 1900s. ✈️http://ourworldwideclassroom.blogspot.com/2013/05/book-adventures-glorious-flight.html?m=1 This amazing lesson could be easily adaptable for any elementary classroom. I love when lessons are already made for other teachers. 💖My teaching strategies are UDL 7.2 optimize relevance, value, and authenticity and EL 30 encourage the use of 7y
AJones diagrams and drawings that aid to identify concepts and seeing relationships. #ucflae3414f17 7y
MorganH This looks like such an inspiring book that could show students examples of determination and persistance! Your link is also perfect! 7y
DrSpalding Lovely image and you are truly thinking about how these books can be used in other content areas to teach about topics that children need to learn about! Obviously this occurred in 1909 and would also be considered SS. Your quote is powerful and should be shared with your students too! 7y
