Mister Seahorse by Eric Carle is a great read aloud for the younger grades. The illustrations alone are so engaging the children will love it! This book talks about the only male to carry eggs in a pouch which is a seahorse! Kingdom Keepers: Disney After Dark | Ridley Pearson

Kingdom Keepers by Ridley Pearson would be a great choice for and independent read or literature circle book. This science fiction digs into the depth of Walt Disney World where five find themselves against Disney Villains and witches. Especially with living in Central Florida, I especially would use this book as many kids could be able to relate to the attraction they‘ve been to.

Anne of Green Gables a graphic novel by Mariah Marsden is a great way to encourage historical fiction in a more entertaining way. The story is about a family who lives on a farm looks to adopt a son to help keep the farm going but rather gets sent a young girl. We get to learn what an imaginative person Anne is through awesome pictures illustrated by Brenna Thummler.

Last Stop on Market Street written by Matt De La Pena and pictures by Christian Robinson is a John Newbery Award winner and a Caldecott Award Winner. This story takes us on a journey with CJ and his nana as they travel through the city. CJ is very aware of his surrounds and questions why he doesn‘t have some things other people have. Nana is there to remind him to close your eyes and hear the music and see the beauty around you.

Once a Mouse by Marcia Brown is a great RA option for our younger students. This book is a RF picture book that has won a Caldecott award. Once a Mouse is a story about a man who turns a mouse into bigger and bigger animals to help them. Once the mouse becomes a tiger, he begins to become ungrateful for everything the man has done for him.

This is a great story about a young boy named August who was born with a genetic defect that has caused his facial features to be severely deformed. This story allows us to see his transition from being homeschool to private school and his journey throughout. This book would work great for IR.

The Day the Crayons Quit is one of my favorite fiction picture books. It is written by Drew Daywalt and Oliver Jeffers. This wonderful colorful story allows the crayons to speak up and will have the children laughing and enjoying their crayons in a new way! This is a great story to use as a RA. This story is so much of a relatable and real life story, students should be able to connect to the story, while using the UDL strategy: highlight patterns, critical features, big ideas, and relationships. Focusing on those main ideas and relationships while monitoring their comprehension with the story will be very beneficial.
