Two short stories, just 40 pages, translated from Maltese. Contemporary #Malta, a small island in the Mediterranean, and a transit point in on migrant routes to Italy. A story and perspective I haven't heard/read before, but may well re-read straight away.

If you come across anything else from Midsea Books, definitely worth taking a look.

This arrived earlier! It'll be the first book of my #EuropeByBook project, reading translated books from around Europe.

Finding fiction in translation from #Malta was tricky, so this is two short stories from Midsea Books' Maltese Lit in Translation series.

Fascinating facts I learnt tracking these down: Maltese is a Semitic language, closely related to Arabic, but uses a Latin alphabet. And Malta is teensy - smaller than the Isle of Wight.

Verity One of my (now ex) work colleagues is from Malta and just moved home. His pictures are totally envy inducing! 7y

rockpools @Verity It's one of those places I knew nothing about beyond their taste in Eurovision entries! Embarrassingly, I wasn't even sure if Maltese was a language. 🤦🏻‍♀️ . It looks just beautiful - I'm going to have to find a wayto visit irl... 7y
