“The boy took off his belt. Here's his collar, he said. The girl took off her ribbon. Heres his lease she said, his name is Willy, he belongs to us“
I think this story would be a good story to share to children to teach a lesson about perspective, the family views the dog as their own and the warden perceives the dog as a stray who doesn't belong to anyone, this story shows that everyone has a place they belong and that others perspective of you or someone is not definitive of who they are.
This book won the Caldecott in 2002, it is a story about a family who meets a stray dog while on a picnic, they play with the dog for a day and believe it must belong to someone, when they leave the dog they cannot stop thinking about him, when they come back they see a warden trying to chase after the dog, the family announces that the dog is theres and he becomes a part of their family
This story is a very fun read, especially for dog lovers. I will be sure to include this book in my future classroom. The illustrations add to the sweet and fun nature of the book.
In this Caldecott Award winning book, a family finds a scruffy little dog while on a picnic. They play with him all day, but leave him behind when they go home. When they return the next week to find him again, the dog warden is also on his tail.
I loved this book! I read this book a lot as a kid. I love the illustrations and I love the story it tells. I would love to read this in my future classroom because it is such a heartwarming book.
The Stray Dog, winner of the Caldecott award, is an amazing book! It tells the story of this family going on a picnic and feeding a stray dog. They don‘t take it home at first, but think about it all week and decide to come back and take the dog home!
“On the way home the girl said, “Maybe Willy doesn‘t belong to anybody.”
This quote caught my eye from the beginning because its sad to think about the dog not belonging to anyone. And its sad to leave a dog you love alone.
I this book is good because it shows that stray dogs are not all bad dogs. To say that stray dogs want love as well. Its a heartfelt story about a family finding a new family member!:)
This Caldecott award winning short story is about a family who found a stray dog and they named him Willy but left him because they thought he must have an owner. This book, a Caldecott Honor book, is about a family who takes care of a stray dog as a dog warren is trying to catch him, but he becomes their dog.
I would use this in my future classroom as a fun read, it could show children that they have a place where they fit in family or at home. It was a cute book.
I'm not sure if I would read this book in my classroom only because it is generic and there are a lot better “stray dog“ books I could read to them. But it is cute and the illustrations are really good.
This is a Caldecott Award-winning book. It is about a stray dog who appears at a family picnic. The children play with him all afternoon, but at the end of the day they have to say goodbye, but they loved the dog so much they can't stop thinking about it. They return to look for him but other people are looking for him too! It is a cute and happy book.
This book is a Caldecott award winning book. The pictures are great but I didn‘t like the storyline. I‘ve read lots of books about stray dogs and this was my least favorite. Not very original.
I would not use this book in my classroom. I didn‘t find it very creative. I‘ve read lots of stories about stray dogs.

Caldecott Honor book. This book was a wonderful read about a stray dog. The family took him in when no one would. The illustrations are beautiful and descriptive. Some were funny also.
A very touching book! Love that it has a happy ending. I think it would be good to share with my future students.
The Stray Dog was written by Marc Simont and was based on a true story. It is a Caldecott Honor Book and was published in 2001. This book was sad but touching. A stray dog becomes a part of a family in order to avoid being captured. He finds his home with a new family and they feed him, play with him, and bathe him!
One time I picked up a stray and found his owner the next day. This book reminded me of that when Willy got a new home.
I loved this book. It was very heart warming. The kids brought in a stray dog into their family and gave him a good home.
