3 posts | 3 read
School is in session! But this is no ordinary kindergarten class. Meet sixteen young giant panda cubs at the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda at the Wolong Nature Preserve. The cubs are raised together from infancy in a protected setting, where they grow strong. Under the watchful eyes of the scientists and workers, the cubs learn skills that will help prepare them to be released into the wild. Follow a day in the life of the cubs with Joanne Ryder's spare and simple text and full-color photographs by Dr. Katherine Feng, Wolong's leading photographer. These special cubs have captured the attention of people around the globe. Thanks to dedicated staff and unique resources at Wolong, this threatened species now has a second chance. Here is the true story of their incredible journey toward hope and survival.

This adorable NF children‘s book, written by Joanne Ryder is a SUPER cute book to incorporate into a science lesson! This book will introduce your students to 16 panda cubs at the China Conservation and Research Center where they are all getting trained to be released into the Wild! Read to find out what they need to do to prepare! #ucflae3414su20

ashleyshugars This book would best serve as a RA during a science lesson. Check out these super cute resources: https://www.simplykinder.com/free-panda-activities/. This would go best with ESOL strategy 11 and UDL strategy 4.1 with all of the after activities! 4y
Emma_Barcena I love Pandas! I think many students would enjoy this NF book! The resource you included would be great for a Kindergarten classroom for sure! I think those strategies would be very appropriate with this activity and book! 4y
DrSpalding This book looks adorable and could complement a science lesson about animals. 4y

#UCFLae3414F17 Panda Kindergarten is a NF text by Joanne Ryder. The book is a factual depiction of the birth and growth of a panda cub. It is filled with facts about the life of the panda bears and how they grow and change and eventually become full grown panda bears. It has a narrative style to it and unfolds in chronological order. It uses pictures to help the reader fully understand the life cycle of a panda bear. This text would be great for

JordanHull GR or CR.

I would use ESOL strategy 23 and create a graphic organizer that goes along with the text. The students would fill out the organizer as they read so they can remember and organize all the information.

JordanHull I would use UDL principle 2.5 and allow the students to watch webcams of live pandas and see photos of local pandas. The link above has a lesson that incorporates the idea of watching pandas live and expands upon it. 7y
