Miramont's Ghost
Miramont's Ghost | Elizabeth Hall
Miramont Castle, built in 1897 and mysteriously abandoned three years later, is home to many secrets. Only one person knows the truth: Adrienne Beauvier, granddaughter of the Comte de Challembelles and cousin to the man who built the castle. Clairvoyant from the time she could talk, Adrienne's visions show her the secrets of those around her. When her visions begin to reveal dark mysteries of her own aristocratic French family, Adrienne is confronted by her formidable Aunt Marie, who is determined to keep the young woman silent at any cost. Marie wrenches Adrienne from her home in France and takes her to America, to Miramont Castle, where she keeps the girl isolated and imprisoned. Surrounded by eerie premonitions, Adrienne is locked in a life-or-death struggle to learn the truth and escape her torment. Reminiscent of Daphne du Maurier's Rebecca, this hauntingly atmospheric tale is inspired by historical research into the real-life Miramont Castle in Manitou Springs, Colorado.

This is my digital TBR for #HalloweenHorror. Most anticipated from this stack? Definitely Dracula! I can't believe I haven't read it before.

moranadatter Great list! I see some favorites there. 😃 8y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @kmdartist Thanks. I've owned many of them for a while, but always ending up reading the books I just got (purchased or library). Time to catch up! 8y
moranadatter @BarbaraTheBibliophage I have the same problem. I'm working on reading the books I own this month. 8y

BarbaraTheBibliophage @kmdartist Me too. And next month. And the month after that. Who knows if I'll be able to last, though? 😜 8y
QueenAnne That's a nice list! Can't wait to hear what you'll think about dracula! I absolutely loved that book ❤️😍😍❤️ 8y
bookishnerd Daughter of Smoke and Bone was really good! 8y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Bookishnerd I've wanted to read that series for ages. I've got all three but, you know, I got distracted again and again! 8y
lute Is that Elizabeth Hand novel her newest? I've never heard of it. 8y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @lute I think you mean the Elizabeth Hall book. Completely different author, but thanks for the heads up to Elizabeth Hand. What's your favorite of hers? 8y
lute Dang! Just goes to prove that we often see what we want to see! Waking the Moon is my favorite. She leans toward sci-fi and the supernatural. 8y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @lute That looks amazing and is now on my TBR. Thanks! 8y

Ah, friends. Don't bother with this one. I had high hopes after a good beginning, but as soon as the character of Marie was introduced, I became more and more annoyed, until finally just came to dislike *every* character! I suppose if you revel in dark stories peopled with characters who have no redeeming qualities, and an awful end, you might like this. For me, though, very disappointing.

MMenefee I was curious about this, but I'm going to skip it. Thanks for reviewing! 8y
Zelma Good to know. I liked the cover, but here are plenty of other choices with creepy houses on the cover. 8y
