Another quiet weekend. All I am doing is snuggling with my furry boys and reading. Continuing my romance binge as I am in need of happily ever after and positivity right now.
Pretty much all I can deal with is romance lately. I need guaranteed happy endings right now. Lazy, lazy weekend doing nothing but laying around and reading.
Omg, my folks sent me some face masks that all library and book related. Not the best fitting ever but so damn cool. 😁
pickMy reading mojo is finally back and I‘ve devouring fantasy. I don‘t read a ton of YA anymore, but this was pretty good. A take on Beauty and the Beast. Really liked the protagonist have cerebral palsy and the characters and atmosphere overall. Wish it had been a standalone. Once I read the last chapter and saw where the story was headed, I was really disappointed. Read reviews of next book and will avoid (complete character assassination).
pickWorking on a reread of this series and loving it as much if not more than the first time. If you want paranormal intrigue set in Katrina-era New Orleans, this is for you. It feels like a detective series in books 1 and 2, but quickly becomes an overarching story of bigger importance that all runs together for the rest of the books. And the series ends in 6 books (Pirateship Down is a set of short stories in the story verse).
pickAwful 80s cover but fabulous story. This hits my sweet spot: multigenerational story with lovely but not flowery writing. Plus art and WWII and family drama. It has been on my TBR for years but I finally got off my duff and read it. Broke my heart a few times but in the end, I was so happy to be in this world and didn‘t want it to end.
pickDipping my toe back into Litsy after a few months away. Stress and anxiety resulted in not much reading. Focused on listening to music during quarantine. Work has been a whole different brand of anxiety and challenges, but at least I‘m reading again. This was a reread and palate cleanser from my last doorstopper read. Missed you all and glad to be back!
After 3-4 weeks of not reading, I am finally feeling normal enough to pick up a book. Working on this one about the 1952 London smog. Plus bonus image of my current Baby Yoda puzzle.
pickStill hardly reading on my quarantine. I stopped being so hard on myself and quit trying to force myself to pick up a book. I got through another reread before allowing myself to focus on other activities like puzzles, listening to music, and watching YouTube videos. Anyway, still loved this one and it was fun to revisit (for the umpteenth time).
pickPerfect escape during my quarantine. I haven‘t been able to focus on reading but a reread of this happy story was perfect. Just so good and I really thought about just starting right over and reading it again.
After not being able to read for a week, I started rereading if this feel-good story and it‘s working. Haven‘t put it down since last night. Making me feel slightly more normal today to have a book in my hands.
My book and dvd haul from the library. In the knick of time too, as we finally shut down to staff today and were told to stay home. (We were closed to public since last Tuesday but still working all work.) I have to run in to get my laptop and few materials in case they want us to work from home and kind of wondering it if would be terrible to grab a few more titles.
bailedI cannot settle on a book lately. This wasn‘t bad at all; in fact I really liked it at first. Unfortunately the PTSD storyline wasn‘t working for my current mood and I decided that there was no need to power through this if I didn‘t feel it. Being so picky right now. I would have preferred a book less about Iris and Maddy and more about all the ladies in the club.
bailedNot my smartest move, reading a book about the plague right now. It seemed like a good idea at the time and I‘ve been wanting to read more from my bookshelves at home rather than library books. I ended up bailing as the language felt stilted and forced, trying to sound old-timey as opposed to historical fiction.

Still dipping my toes in slowly, but I am happy to be back thinking about books (as opposed to all of my feelings all the time). Reading ToB but am still maybe a week behind. Here is my main seating in my living room. I had more shelves in my house so I have a ton of overflow here. A friend decided I needed to decorate with my books anyway.
It‘s been awhile since I was active. Long, sad story but in a nutshell I am in the middle of a divorce and it‘s terrible. However, there will be light at the end of the tunnel. I had to rehome two of my sweet boys but Skippy and Radar (my older cats) stayed with me. And here is my new living room with all my books and my favorite reading chairs. It will be a restorative space. I‘ve missed you!
pickWow, that was a giant gut punch. I feel emotionally wrung out. I liked but didn‘t love it, even with the strong emotional response. The story is tragic and I liked that it was a quiet story of a relationship as it changes/crumbles. Seeing the subtle changes in Roy and Celestial‘s letters wasn‘t enjoyable but was satisfying as a reader. Unfortunately, I disliked the characters so much throughout and just felt worn out in the end.
My choices for new year reading has certainly been all all over the place and not cozy in the least. For my #lastfirst I ended the year with an Alice in Wonderland story taking place in an asylum and then went right into a memoir from a member of the Manson family. @BookNAround
panI struggled to get through this, as few of the stories really grabbed me. I liked some of them but felt mostly lukewarm. At least one or two felt unfinished and needed to be a bit longer. I wish there had been more than one story with LGBT+ characters but at least they weren‘t all white. Slight progress, I guess. Cute for YA but overall not for me.
Happy winter holidays to all! Elwood is exhausted from lots of play time and attention. We are all lounging around with coffee, books, and sweets. I am eager to dive into my #Jolabokaflodswap book today but am currently reading some Christmas short stories.

bailedNope. I have been in a light and fluffy mood lately, with a little more romance than usual. This was so saccharine and cliche and annoying, I bailed. Hero was moody and rude; heroine was perky, perfect, and a bit stalker-like. Nope. My first Debbie Macomber and definitely my last.
Omg, I received the cutest and most thoughtful gift from a friend this week - an Christmas tree ornament made out of a page from Outlander. I adore it.
Cozied up in my armchair with early afternoon coffee, fleece pajamas and a very fluffy Christmas novel. Yay vacation!

pickRead this for my book club. Sweet though pretty predictable and veering toward saccharine. We won‘t have a lot to talk about but it was a quick, feel-good story that felt like watching a Hallmark movie set in a quirky little Alabama town.
My posting has been very slow lately due to work and life crap, but I am still reading a ton. I love my new Kindle and treated myself to a pretty cover. Here is a Toby cameo since Elwood have been getting all the attention lately. 😆
I just treated myself to a basic Kindle and I am in love. I had various Nooks in the past but my last one died a couple of years ago. So excited to have access to Overdrive again. Gratuitous Elwood photo as well. 😆
I just ordered a Kindle due to the Black Friday sales, since my Nook has been dead for the last couple of years. I am so excited! In the interim I‘m while I wait, I finally started Year One now that the last book of the trilogy is out. I het waiting for series so I usually wait until they‘re finished to start them.
Looking forward to a quiet weekend of read this quirky, sweet book. Life has been so difficult lately and I hav been quiet on Litsy recently, but I am still here and following along with everyone and reading.

Busy with work and not enough time to read. We were at a Trunk or Treat last night. I did my best version of Jean Lafitte. Not the sexy pirate of one of my favorite book series, but I‘m still pleased.
Current situation. I cannot get healthy.
Evening plans. Woman in the Window is for work book club, and I don‘t love it. So I have the other book when I need a break, or I might download a fluffy adult romance on my iPad. Now I just need a mug of hot cocoa.
I stayed home sick today (which is no fun as I‘ve been feeling terrible for days). But at least I have a sweet Elwood and this lovely book to get me through the morning. An epistolary novel featuring a self-described Walt Whitman fanboy? Yes, please.
panGratuitous Elwood photo. Not the worst book ever but it really missed the mark. Billed as hilarious satire, It wasn‘t funny and the satire wasn‘t sharp enough; it was too realistic and the goofy parts didn‘t go far enough. Something felt off and when I flipped to the author bio, I figured it out. This is an older white man‘s image of liberal Ivy League, taken up a notch, his desire to poke fun, and his wish for a return to how colleges used to be.
Thank you for all the support over losing Doggie. We decided our house was too quiet and we had love to give. So please meet Elwood, our newest family member. He has a giant underbite and short little legs, and has stolen our hearts.

I haven‘t been around here lately as we‘re still grieving Doggie and I am just really sad. Reading a lot though, since it‘s comforting. I have to read the Nicholas Sparks for my work book club. 🙄 but I would much rather dive into the next Suzanne Johnson instead. I am really enjoying the Sentinels series and paranormal south Louisiana. More ⬇️
