Dispatcher Zak Waller prefers working behind the scenes in the Sheriff's Office of Lost Trail, Montana, but when a newcomer to the sparely populated town is brutally murdered--and the Sheriff is quick to pin the death on an unknown outsider--Zak starts his own private sleuthing. On the surface Lost Trail is a picture-perfect western town, offering a simple way of life revolving around the local ranches and ski hill, but Zak knows the truth behind the faCade. When his old school friend Tiff Masterson, whose family owns a local Christmas tree farm, moves back to town, the two of them join forces to get to the truth about the murder.

This book is billed as a mystery set in a small town in Montana. Instead, it‘s a slightly soapy look at the town with a mystery smashed into it that it suddenly resolved out of nowhere. Plus there‘s a hint of misogyny running through it. If the author had taken her time to flesh out the mystery or thrown it out altogether, this would have worked better, but instead it‘s a bit of a mess.

Current Ebook. I‘ve read one other mystery by CJ Carmichael and love the easy flow of her writing. This is book 1 of 4. The kindle edition on Amazon is free right now.

@MaleficentBookDragon This was the other freebie I picked up today. I get the daily list from BookBub. There‘s always at least one freebie.

GingerAntics This looks interesting. I just grabbed it, too. 4y
