pickIle's novel is a different, multi-dimensional telling of the story of the people of southern Nigeria. Here, they are not just victims of a corrupt government and oil companies, but also victims of their own greed and their inhumanity to each other.
What I most enjoyed about this book is the originality. I love that history and the culture of the people are a prominent part of the story; it's beautiful.

pickFinished this debut by Jowhor Ile last week! I really wanted to LOVE it but the structure of the story pulled away from the impact it could have had. Still, 3.5 stars for the intricate detail and how Ile conveyed emotions through his writing 👌

pickThe haunting story of a family directly affected by the economic & political turmoil of 1990s Nigeria. The language is serene, but the story transports you to a place where you feel angry, sad, frustrated and deeply invested. Beautiful prose. Audiobook narrator Chukwudi Iwuji is also a star.
