Mehso-so

I have such mixed feelings about this book. Some parts I couldn‘t put down whereas others I couldn‘t wait to get through them.
I didn‘t find any of the characters to be likable and sometimes the writing style could be hard to follow.

Left my house for the day and brought four books with me because I couldn‘t decide what I may want to read 🤷🏼‍♀️

I had the honour of reviewing Bonert's 1st book and it was a stunning debut. But this sophomore effort coming of age tale just didn't resonate with me. I can't put my finger on it—perhaps it was the dialogue? It was hard for me to get into the book with several failed attempts and start overs. Once I did get into the story, I did enjoy parts of it. The characters are complex, some are well-developed, and others, like Martin are underdeveloped.

Too much flipping back and forth to the glossary to get the dialects. DNF. May be okay with a real print book. I didn‘t stay around to find out.

Bailedbailed

Unfortunately, this was a DNF for me. I do not enjoy a book written in dialect, and when it is first person and a dialect I am unfamiliar with, this one was just too difficult to get into. I couldn‘t find the cadence and didn‘t understand the lingo. #netgalley

cj82487 Dialect is a hit or miss for me too. Sometimes it's effortless and other times I have to read a word multiple times to figure it out (those are the misses). I feel a lot of the time though it distracts from the story & would be better left out. 7y
Well-ReadNeck @cj82487 I can‘t tell you how many books with Irish dialect I‘ve bailed on. For whatever reason, i just cannot wrap my brain around that one. 7y
cj82487 @Well-ReadNeck Oooo that is a tricky one. I've bailed on a handful of those too lol 7y
Samplergal I bailed on it too. Too much work with the dialects 7y
