Survive!
Survive!: Essential Skills and Tactics to Get You Out of Anywhere--Alive! | Les Stroud
2 posts | 3 read
Youre alone in the forest on a fine autumn day with nothing but a multitool. Youre stuck there for a week. Should you be more worried about finding a source of uncontaminated water or about a bear that might be in the area? Neither, says Les Stroud. The bear will most likely avoid you, and dehydration will affect you faster than parasites in untreated water. Your bigger worry should be shelterthe daytime might be nice, but its likely going to be cold at night. And thats just the beginning. The concept of Survivorman is simple: left in a remote location, Les must survive for seven days on his own without food, water or equipment. Now, he shares his expert knowledge in Survive!, a fully illustrated guide based on his experiences on six continents and filled with field-tested advice. Many books on survival are culled from Second World Warera training techniques that are out-of-date or just plain wrong. Survive! debunks these dated myths, exploring basic and advanced tactics that show you how to cope in any survival situation. Brought to life with Less own anecdotes and the tales of others, Survive! is the perfect manual for anyone -- from beginner to armchair traveller to seasoned explorer -- who wants to meet natures dangers with confidence. As Les writes, If you believe you can make it through the bad times, and you are not intimidated by the forces of nature, you will markedly increase your chances of survival. SURVIVE! includes detailed information on the following: preparing for survival, mentally and physically fire-making techniques basic survival kit components finding, collecting and making water sources of food types of shelter

1. Survival tips from Survivorman?! Yes, please!
2. Bare feet as much as possible
3. Does the top of the CN tower count? Other than that, 🤷‍♀️. I've driven through Pennsylvania and the Carolinas as a kid, and been to Cape Breton here in NS, but I couldn't tell you exact elevation.
4. Jello
5. Likely not.

#TrivialThursday @GarthRanzz
1. Les Stroud. He's a Canadian survivalist who has written a couple of books and had a TV show. I'll need him. 😄
2. This one is hard. My music tastes change with my mood. Today's mood says Mumford & Sons.
3. Either coffee or tea. Tea might be more versatile in this instance though.

julesG And I thought, I could harvest coffee and tea (this island is the botanist's dream) - Also, Mumford and Sons 😍 6y
GarthRanzz I was thinking tea as well but thought the same as @julesG, you could probably make a good tea foraging around the island. Coffee, now that‘s something I wouldn‘t want to chance not being readily available. 😊 6y
julesG @GarthRanzz Well, I had the coolest chemistry teacher, a coffee addiction if ever I've seen one. We had a project going with her, where we roasted coffee beans and then sampled coffee. I might not be able to go hunting or fishing but I'm pretty certain I could roast a decent bean. 😁 6y
GarthRanzz @julesG Now that‘s a teacher who deserves a raise! 6y
