pickA cautious pick. Read it to see what the hype was about. Good world building and the magic system. I am not a fan of a violent romance, but I could appreciate some parts of it. But there‘s a lot of ick. My other issue with this book is it‘s too damn long. Some things became a filler, some things start to go in circles, and some things stretch out when they don‘t have to. Overall it kept me reading, and I‘m glad I‘ve given it a try. TWs are many.
bailedIt was fine…and then the author used a device after which there was no chance the story was going to recover in the way it would need to in order for that choice to work. And honestly, I didn‘t see that happening. Most likely an unpopular opinion because my daughter tells me this book is super popular but I didn‘t have enough confidence in the story to keep going. My TBR is too unruly to not put this one down and move on.
I'm still wrapping my head around how good this book truly is before writing a review. For context, I read it in 6 days, 1040 pages. My daughter introduced me to Avendell art, who has created magnificent illustrations for #Alchemised

This book is a legit doorstop…I can‘t remember the last time my arm got tired holding a book. 😬 I definitely blame the book, not age! 😂 It‘ll all be worth it though if it proves to be an entertaining read! 🤞
