Was expecting this book to be the run of the mill detective story but I was wrong. What a ride! Just when I was expecting the story to go down one path it went running down another. Turned left when I was sure it was going right. Loved the dynamic between the DI and the DS. So happy that I stumbled upon the first in the Stone and Oliver series. Also saw that Mari Hannah has written 2 other series that I'm dying to get to.

Mari Hannah‘s crime novel (the first in a series) has some interesting character development, it‘s interesting to see a series focus on the victims and their families and the Northumbria region is lovingly described but there‘s a lot of set up here and neither the relationship between Stone and Oliver nor a number of revelations feel earned (especially a key revelation at the end) such that I‘m not sure I‘m going to rush to read the sequel.

This is a good read, it‘s full of twists, suspects left right and centre, but it keeps you guessing to the end. AND on 99p for kindle at the moment

Frank Oliver is a third gen cop, a Detective Sargent.David Stone is her boss, but this is not a buddy cop story, it‘s full of twists, suspects left right and centre, but it keeps you guessing to the end. Mari Hannah has built great characters and the story glides along effortlessly, keeping you hooked all the way.
