“Sometimes driven aground by the photon storms, by the swirling of the galaxies, clockwise and counterclockwise, ticking with light down the dark sea-corridors lined with our silver sails, our demon-haunted sails, our hundred-league masts as fine as threads, as fine as silver needles sewing the threads of starlight, embroidering the stars on black velvet, wet with the winds of Time that go racing by.”

TobeyTheScavengerMonk Image is concept art for Disney‘s Treasure Planet, but it matched this quote rather well, I thought. Also I miss Gene Wolfe. 6y

Requiescat in pace, Gene Wolfe

TobeyTheScavengerMonk Art from this really amazing article about Gene Wolfe that you should probably read: https://www.theringer.com/2019/4/25/18515675/gene-wolfe-science-fiction-author 6y
TK-421 Great article! Thanks for sharing the link. I‘m ashamed to say I‘ve never read any of his work – that needs to change! 6y

Pickpick

OMG!!! What a way to finish and clear things up! By far the best book of the series with amazing turn of events. Maybe the previous books were full of it and I didn't notice, but this one was full of descriptions of places I could really picture in my head, which is a great advantage when it comes to book. Take a deep bow mr. Wolfe, you've earned your applause!!

Okay, so you clicked through the spoiler thing, which ostensibly means you are down to be spoiled. But, just to be sure, I am going to put the #TaintedLove megaspoiler in the comments.

If you have no intention of ever reading the Book of the New Sun, one of the greatest masterworks of fantastic fiction ever written, then tap the spoiler comment. If you think you might want to tackle this towering achievement then move along. #JuneTunz

TobeyTheScavengerMonk So in book 4 we find out that Dorcas, the lovely woman that Severian saved in the lake and who had been his lover and traveling companion, is actually his paternal grandmother whose corpse he accidentally resurrected. It's handled kind of beautifully and tragically if you can imagine that. Yep. #TaintedLove indeed. 7y
Reggie I kinda think this takes the #TaintedLove cake. Wow. 7y
Cinfhen Hahaha...that's a lot of family drama and some major #taintedlove 😉 7y

"My pen halts, though I do not. Reader, you will walk no more with me. It is time we both take up our lives."
