A swirl of history, art, intrigue and murder that brings 1930s Melbourne to life'?Gideon HaighAn unsolved murder comes to light after almost seventy years? In 1999, art dealer Alex Clayton stumbles across a lost portrait of Molly Dean, an artist's muse brutally slain in Melbourne in 1930. Alex buys the painting and sets out to uncover more details, but finds there are strange inconsistencies: Molly's mother seemed unconcerned by her daughter's violent death, the main suspect was never brought to trial despite compelling evidence, and vital records are missing. Alex enlists the help of her close friend, art conservator John Porter, and together they sift through the clues and deceptions that swirl around the last days of Molly Dean.

I really enjoyed this! Historical fiction based on actual events that occurred in Melbourne in 1930. It is a dual narrative written in two time periods, the second being 1999. We get a behind the scenes look at the art world and meet the excellent 🐕 character Hogarth the Wolfhound ❤ I see this is listed as Alex Clayton Art Mystery #1, I shall be seeking out #2 😊 Fantastic choice @thegirlwiththelibrarybag , thanks again. 😊

thegirlwiththelibrarybag Ooh! You got right onto it 😊 Book 3 is out as well - I‘m hoping she‘s a reliable book a year type of author... 3y
Cathy_J @thegirlwiththelibrarybag Oh fantastic! Do you know none of my family realized the Luna Park face was called Mister Moon. Minds blown 🤯🤣 It makes perfect sense too 😂 3y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @Cathy_J, it‘s nice reading something set in Melbourne to pick up these little facts ✨ 3y

fleeting That's a beautiful cover (that reminds me of the new Great Gatsby book cover inspired by the film)! 6y
