I feel like this book really picks up from the second half on. It‘s a portal fantasy to a magic school, so fun premise if that‘s your thing (it is mine), but I got extremely attached to the characters in the latter half and now I‘m seriously annoyed that someone else has book 2 out from the library! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Surprisingly engaging! The characters and dialogue are a smidge childish...BUT I'm enjoying it so far. A good casual read. I'm on to the next book asap because the whole series is free on audible for the next day and a half.
Grand Days by Frank Moorhouse is wonderful. It‘s a chunkster but it kept my interest. Set in Geneva in the 1920‘s, telling the story of Edith Campbell Berry who starts her career at the League of Nations. Edith is wonderful ..naive yet sophisticated, loyal, brave and wise for her years. She‘s also playful and very modern!! Some of the issues she deals with women still deal with today!!
On to The Bluest Eye..
@CarolynM loved it❤️
Next on my list is Grand Days in honour of Frank Moorhouse who recently died. An Australian must read… some say a masterpiece…it‘s been one I should have read years ago! It‘s a chunkster @ 700 pages😊

On Saturday the sun was shining (unlike now with dangerous, cold wind!) and I headed to the Botanic Garden‘s book fair. I exercised restraint with the books but the cds were free so I couldn‘t help myself. Mainly classical music. Some of the book covers are gorgeous and all in great condition. A bargain as they were mostly $2 each. I enjoyed a Devonshire tea afterwards. I will definitely be back.
A fascinating account of the author‘s time on a somewhat barren Greek Island in the 1950s. It‘s just the kind of memoir I like, with lots of detail about people, places and the seeming mundanities of daily life.
This first book doesn‘t include their life with Leonard Cohen et al, which is in Peel Me a Lotus. Nevertheless I‘m really looking forward to seeing how the novel A Theatre for Dreamers compares in our #buddyread @CarolynM
I was going to binge this series over Thanksgiving weekend but life got in the way. I finally was able to finish the first book and then sped through the rest this New Year's weekend. Whoa boy. I'm not sure what to do with myself now since there is no more. I fell headfirst into this amazing world Tansy created and it's very flawed cast of characters. I loved this so much. The ending was probably the most satisfying end to a series I've read.
