Black AF: America's Sweetheart | Kwanza Osajyefo
5 posts | 8 read | 4 to read
Can a black woman be America's first superhero? Eli Franklin is a 15-year-old girl living in rural Montana-and she just happens to be the most powerful person on the planet. In the aftermath of the world learning that only black people have superpowers, Eli makes her debut as the superhero Good Girl, on a mission to help people and quell the fear of empowered blacks. When a super-terrorist threatens to take away everything Eli has worked toward, will donning a patriotic costume be enough for her to find acceptance? America's Sweetheart expands BLACK into a universe of heroes.

[#ComicBookReview] Black AF Vol 1 is such a quick but fun comic book about a young black girl named Eli who has superpowers. Once it‘s revealed to the public that many black people across the world have superhero abilities Eli takes it upon herself to become the first superhero. li is the perfect MC, you can‘t help but root for her!

Pickpick

Read these this evening - I feel kind of so-so about Black (too much going on and I hard time following some of the story/characters), but ultimately liked the idea enough to give it a tentative pick. I liked the tagged book far more (tighter story and better character development). I‘d definitely read more of either series.

Squidapus Squidapus had the same opinion! 5y

Eli is a superpowered gal whose adopted father also happens to work for the government. It was fascinating to see her story of wanting to be patriotic and support the country. So many people do not get either side of the argument and I love how the showed it here. There are some aspects of the story that really changed my thoughts of where this is going and I am here for it! Super spoilery so will not mention.

bookandcat Wait which book comes first? This or the other one you posted? 6y
TsundokuAleax @bookandcat I had the same problem. This should be read after the other one. 6y

Finished up graphic novel no 2 for #24in48. One more and I'll probably be awake enough to focus long enough to read a prose book!
