Blacksad: A Silent Hell
Blacksad: A Silent Hell | Juan Diaz Canales
3 posts | 7 read
Detective John Blacksad returns, with a new case that takes him to a 1950s New Orleans filled with hot jazz and cold-blooded murder! Hired to discover the fate of a celebrated pianist, Blacksad finds his most dangerous mystery yet in the midst of drugs, voodoo, the rollicking atmosphere of Mardi Gras, and the dark underbelly that it hides! * Features an extensive making-of section, with tons of prelim sketches and watercolor studies. * 2011 Eisner and Harvey Award-winner!

My favorite cat detective goes to New Orleans to help music promotor Faust Lachapelle find his missing star Sebastian. The story is well told but hardly original. The art, however, is gorgeous. Guarnido draws light masterfully and New Orleans looked just the way I think it should.

Swe_Eva Agree, the art is something else! 6y
Henrik_Madsen @Swe_Eva I‘m mostly a plot / story guy, so it‘s hard for me to value books which are mostly remarkable for the art work, but here it‘s just so obvious. 6y

This follow-up to Blacksad, one of my favorite graphic novels, includes one full story, 2 short stories, and Waterstory, a 30+ page piece by Juanjo Guarnido on artistic choices in the graphic novel. The art is this is beautiful and reading Waterstory was very interesting.

Booksnchill Like the art from this page at least! 6y
CoffeeCatsBooks @Booksnchill If you haven‘t read Blacksad, I highly recommend it. It is a series of noir stories featuring a down on luck P.I. but set in the world of animals. Just stunning artwork. 6y
Booksnchill @CoffeeCatsBooks oh- I will!!! Have you read the Granville Noir series? 6y
CoffeeCatsBooks @Booksnchill No but I will definitely look for it! 6y

I was supposed to be at work today but instead I'm stuck at work with food poisoning! Lost 2kgs over the weekend so that was fun! Only way to make up for it is by reading some amazing books!
If the next book is as good as the previous ones then Blacksad will definitely do the job!!

Nebklvr Oh, no. What a miserable experience! Get better soon! 7y
hlgreenfield @Nebklvr thanks :) I don't want to speak too soon but I think the worst is over, just need to recover and gather my strength back! 7y
Izai.Amorim Oh, wish you get healthy soon. 7y
