This classic science fiction novel by Harry Harrison was originally published in Analog Science Fact-Science Fiction as Sense of Obligation and has been for a Hugo Award. It tells the story of Brion, a man who has just won the prestigious Twenties competition, in which he competed in 20 categories of human activities against entrants from across the globe. However, He is forced to leave his home to attempt to salvage the most horrific planet in the galaxy, Dis. This work is part of our Vintage Sci-Fi Classics Series, a series in which we are republishing some of the best stories in the genre by some of its most acclaimed authors, such as Isaac Asimov, Marion Zimmer Bradley, and Robert Sheckley. Each publication is complete with a short introduction to the history of science fiction.

Never had any interest in this author, but having read this I am now a convert. (I read the original, serialized "Sense of Obligation" version. It was subsequently released in paperback as "Planet of the Damned".)

The current #24In48 challenge is all about AUDIOBOOKS! I‘ve got a book in my ears pretty well every time I do a solo task that‘s hands-on-brain-off: cleaning, making stuff, puzzling, cooking— or, most often, walking (and taking photos of the sky).

I get almost all my audios from the library. Most come from OverDrive, but I do the odd book from RB Digital. Right now I‘m listening to a LibriVox production of a Hugo nominee in the public domain.
