This is an East African morality tale. Her hair “shone like gold.†What??? Doesn‘t comport with any version of the tale I‘ve seen or heard. I‘m disappointed (truthfully irritated) and won‘t be reading this to my East African born daughter. How insulting.

Alfoster Seriously! What???😫😫😫 7y
tournevis That... That's super offensive. Geez. 7y
bookandcat O_o what were they thinking?!? 7y

Jabberwocky How... how many people had to read, edit, and illustrate that book in order to publish it and NONE of them thought ‘Well..?‘! 7y
saresmoore We got a Barefoot book from the library and I wanted to love it, but wasn‘t impressed—it felt forced and a little preachy & speculative. Your post makes me wonder if all the Barefoot books have issues. This is the one we checked out: 7y
lyradora Weird. If the character had been drawn dark skinned, but having gold hair was instrumental to the story (as in, actually *gold*, not blonde) that would have made for an interesting fairy tale. But the character looks European-ish. 😕 7y
Tamra @lyradora right, that would make sense. But it was “retold†with gold hair. 😠7y
Tamra @saresmoore before I always had the impression BF Books was a reputable publisher. Too bad. 7y
