A science fiction omnibus
A science fiction omnibus | Brian Aldiss
2 posts | 2 to read
This new edition of Brian Aldiss's classic anthology brings together a diverse selection of science fiction spanning over sixty years, from Isaac Asimov's 'Nightfall', first published in 1941, to the 2006 story 'Friends in Need' by Eliza Blair. Including authors such as Clifford Simak, Harry Harrison, Bruce Sterling, A. E. Van Vogt and Brian Aldiss himself, these stories portray struggles against machines, epic journeys, genetic experiments, time travellers and alien races. From stories set on Earth, to uncanny far distant worlds and ancient burnt-out suns, the one constant is humanity itself, compelled by an often fatal curiosity to explore the boundless frontiers of time, space and probability.

Another, I think easier request for recommendations. Hubby is retiring and wants some fun easy sci do reads. He loves Dune and the Dan Simmons Hyperion series. Wants something Not dystopian with good world building. I think he most recently liked sleeping Giants. Is currently binging lost in space on TV. Hit me up! Thanks in advance. This is not my genre so I am lost!

Dragon Hail Mary and the Martian and my absolute favourite is The Murderbot Series by Martha Wells 2y

Here's a few #DNFBooks that I intend to try reading again at some point because I'm too damned stubborn to totally bail on a book after only 1 try. I'm attempting to ease my way into guilt-free bailing by giving each book a 2nd chance (& 3rd if necessary) just in case I've put it aside simply because it didn't hold my interest at the time rather than because it's actually too awful to finish. #ReadingResolutions

ephemeralwaltz Bailed on Walden too. 6y
tournevis I gave Ulysses three tries too. Walden I finished. It was "ok". 6y
TK-421 @tournevis I knew Ulysses wouldn't be easy but didn't expect it to be such a struggle! I expected to love Walden from all the great quotes I'd seen, but just couldn't get through it. I'm hoping both will be easier next time around. 6y
TK-421 @ephemeralwaltz Glad I'm not the only one! I really wanted to love it, but just wasn't feeling it at the time. 6y
tournevis @TK-421 Good luck! 6y
