pickA tender story of grief and emerging romance set in the #lesbian community in Victoria, BC. I could relate to so much in this #graphicnovel! These characters are people I recognize. The dialogue is spot on, and so is the narrative pacing. The art is strongest in its portrayal of the urban landscape and layouts that show the passage of time. Watercolour in muted tones suit the nuanced layers of emotion in the story. #lgbtq #canadianauthor

I love the sense of movement in this full page panel as Rayanne arrives at work, greeting everyone. It also captures so many details of the cubicle office environment: the motivational posters on the wall; plants, coffee mugs and snapshots personalizing work spaces; spare shoes or a bike helmet under a desk; the ease of slipping over to talk to a colleague at a nearby cubicle.
pickA great graphic novel! It felt very authentic to white west coast middle age lesbian culture in a way I think only an author representing their own culture can be. It's about two women both trying to move forward in their lives (one from the death of her wife, the other from a self-imposed exile from dating after a bad relationship). It was a bit sad, but also sexy and hopeful. It made me nostalgic for when I lived in Victoria (where it's set).
