This graphic novel was one wild ride. Steffen Kverneland threw himself & friend into the novel. They toured the locations where Munch lived & painted commenting along the way. He pulled in texts from Munch's friends, colleagues, & detractors. It is no wonder this novel took seven years to create. What a labor of love!

This book wasn‘t in the database so I‘ve tagged one of his other books.

The title of the book could be translated to An Voluntary Death, and this is a graphic memoir where Kverneland looks into his childhood and his dad‘s suicide.

This was a powerful read.

7th book finished for #AwesomeAugust

Great graphic novel on the life and loves of the famous painter Edvard Munch ( aka. The scream). It was long and I mean long. And it was crazy! But if you like interesting and beautiful long form graphic novels, this one's worth a look.

alanacristin I'm guessing long means super heavy? I'd really like to read it but I'm trying to only buy books in Japan that I am okay with selling or can get back easily in luggage :p and who could part with such a lovely book?! 8y
Readaholics Yes it's a bigger book for a graphic novel. 1/3 bigger than a comic and 3x as thick. It would weigh... 8y

Munch enjoyed his crazy cafe society friends. Painters, poets and madmen ( literally). A great graphic novel about his life and paintings.

andreadmw Oh I love this painter. I'll definitely have to read this. 8y

Edward Munch was a strange painter....Art was his religion. This graphic novel gives you a sneak peek into the life of German bohemians in the 1900's.

Love that Munch wanted to create early comics! This graphic novel is pretty entertaining. Being an artist in Germany back in the day meant lots of drinking, yelling and screwing. lol no wonder they always died penniless.

LauraJ The art for this book is great. 8y

Omg I have a lot in common with the Norwegian painter Edward Munch ( who painted the iconic painting "The Scream"). I'm loving this graphic novel revealing all his alcoholic binges, bad relationships and artistic self-loathing.

Gezemice Looks fun! 8y

Edward Munch rebelled against traditional realism and painted things as he felt them. He also was addicted to women and drink. Lol. My kind of artist...
Loving this huge graphic novel about his life.

I am so excited to read this graphic novel based on the life of the painter of "The Scream." Follow me and I'll post updates from the book - a 7 year project collaboration between two artists.

Hobbinol I didn't know about this book! I've had a Munch bio on my TBR shelf at home forever, but I think I might have to order this very soon. Thanks so much!!!!!😱♥️😱♥️😱 8y
