The first book of 2021 was a sob fest.Partition in 1947 was a horrifying tragedy, the writer creates a harrowing potrait of that time, the sufferings, the hardships and miseries especially of women at that time. The primary character Pooro/Hamida will always stay with me,she is the true heroin as she rises above the wrongdoings and shows great character in face of adversity.

On the left, a poem by Amrita Pritam written in Punjabi, it refers to the horrors of the partition of India and Pakistan, the violence that followed, killing somewhere between 200,000 to 2 million, this poem refers to that heart wrenching event

On the right, the English translation

New Year, new book.
This year,I explore more regional Indian writers(translated to English obviously),India has so many languages and accomplished authors in every language.
The first is Pinjar which means Skeleton, originally written in Punjabi(I can read and speak Punjabi a little bit). Love this language, the words are sweet and almost poetic, love the Punjabi people, it's the best way to get into regional India.

More on this as I read along.
