panPoints for the concept of a queer romance between a part-time grim reaper and her fellow college student who works at a bakery but this was not as fun and cute as it should have been. The art was too Rick and Morty for my taste, the plot was incredibly random, and none of the characters felt like actual people. Unfortunate, because I was so here for this premise! I used to love that show Dead Like Me about the grim reapers, did anyone else?
pickAlmost every positive review for this books says the same thing - it‘s adorable. That‘s because, we‘ll, it‘s adorable. Super cute Becka with the bows in her hair has a crush on cool Kim, who has a part-time job as a grim reaper. But she‘s only in training, so she can only reap animal souls. And Becka adorably works at a bakery, where she probably puts pink fliers and glitter on all the things. Like I said, adorable.
panHmm wanted to like this but it fell pretty flat for me, both in terms of random meandering plot with no consequences for anyone's actions and superficial characters that didn't feel like real people and whose relationships felt rushed. Plus, the internet speak that everyone talks in is super annoying. Some of the art is cute but nothing to write home about. Even the queer romance couldn't save it. Too bad. ☹️ #QueerBooks
