Pickpick

This was one of those cozy mysteries where I had so much fun wallowing in the characters' unusual situation--they're housemaids and footmen at Buckingham Palace--that I didn't even bother to guess along with the murder investigation. Jane, our Canadian narrator, is great. Her fellow staff, many of whom are gay, have interesting lives of their own. The Queen shows up at regular intervals, troublesome Corgis in tow. It's all quite delightful.

This book has had three Coronation Street references so far. That's three more than I've encountered in all my reading to date, and I'm delighted.

Also: when I was a kid my grandma was SO PROUD that she and the Queen watched the same soap opera.

And on the subject of The Dream: I had it once. The Queen invited me to call her Auntie Liz, and that's how I've thought of her ever since.

Snack time! I paired this cozy mystery with David's Cold 911 tea, wedges of Irish Porter cheddar and Red Leicester cheese, and oatcakes spread with butter or duck pate.

The Little Free Library looked a bit sparse the last time I went past, so I took a few things over there tonight. I also claimed the copy of DEATH AT BUCKINGHAM PALACE because it looked fun and it's signed by the author. Their tiny bio says they're "a Canadian writer," so I wonder if they live near the LFL.

Crazeedi So thoughtful of you! 6y
xicanti @Crazeedi it looked like a couple other people had the same idea, so now the library's nice and full again! 6y
