After the Gold
After the Gold | Racheline Maltese, Erin McRae
4 posts | 2 read | 1 to read
For over a decade, world-champion figure skaters Katie Nowacki and Brendan Reid have been partners in every way but one. But now that their electric on-ice chemistry has led them to Olympic gold, they're retiring from competition. As they cross America on an exhibition tour with their fellow athletes, Katie and Brendan's always volatile relationship becomes more turbulent than ever as they face down the media, their fans, and their increasingly nosy teammates. When Katie realizes she wants to go back to the farm she grew up on, leaving Brendan behind in the city where they trained, their fairy tale seems destined to end. But will Brendan be able to convince her to trust him with the off-ice intimacy that only spelled disaster in their past?

I gave dalgona coffee a try this morning. It was pretty good, but I‘ll do a half batch if I ever make it again. This was just too much sugary coffee.

AFTER THE GOLD hasn‘t gripped me as hard as these authors‘ other books, but it‘s still pretty durned good. I appreciate the narrative trajectory as the heroine copes with her anxiety, with major changes to her skating career, and with her shifting relationship with her partner.

Breakfast with McRae & Maltese. The first 80 pages of AFTER THE GOLD have made me realize just how much I appreciate the way they write group dynamics. I love that their characters always have to work so, so hard at even long-established relationships, too. No coasting allowed.

Pickpick

This was a delightfully sweet and intense romance slash skating story. The characters were real, the writing realistic, and the romance had just enough will they/won‘t they tension to keep me reading but not so much that I wanted to slap somebody (preferably Katie; I think I‘m Team Brendan on this one). Another great romance from Erin and Racheline. I think I‘m going to read another one next. Queen From the North or The Art of Three?

This was the book Erin and I never meant to write but we got obsessed with Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir during the Olympics and got a bit inspired. If you‘re looking for a #sports #romance set in the world of #competitive #figureskating, this one is for you. Featuring a bisexual heroine with anxiety, this is an #ownvoices effort. #romancenovel
