This is a well documented account of the breakup of Yugoslavia and the subsequent wars among some of the resulting states. The authors took great pains to pull evidence from on the ground reporting as well as interviews with the leaders and generals who instigated and perpetuated the wholesale slaughter and dispossession of thousands. For a complex historical subject, you can't do much better than this book. 1999 Kosovo is not covered, by the way.
