Berlin: City of Stones presents the first part of Jason Lutes' captivating trilogy, set in the twilight years of Germany's Weimar Republic. Kurt Severing, a journalist, and Marthe Muller, an art student, are the central figures in a broad cast of characters intertwined with the historical events unfolding around them. I found this hard to follow at times but I think it‘s my fault, not the author‘s. I‘ve never been able to completely grasp the political happenings leading to World War 1 or 2.

I had been waiting to read this series until the third/final volume came out. Then I got tired of waiting and requested it from the library anyways. Lucky timing, as when I put in my review on goodreads, I found out volume 3 was released earlier this month! I can‘t wait to read the rest of this series. Visually stunning, both grand and personal in scale. Brings Weimar Berlin to life. This is why I need to read more comics.

This first part of Jason Lutes' trilogy covers the time period between September 1928 and May 1929 in Berlin. It's a very atmospheric graphic novel about every day life in Berlin across different religions, different political movements, and different social classes. I'll definitely read the second part soon.

Anna40 This sounds great. It's a graphic novel? 6y
