The Kidney Hypothetical: Or How to Ruin Your Life in Seven Days
The Kidney Hypothetical: Or How to Ruin Your Life in Seven Days | Lisa Yee
2 posts | 6 read
Lisa Yee gives us her most fascinating flawed genius since Millicent Min. Higgs Boson Bing has seven days left before his perfect high school career is completed. Then it's on to Harvard to fulfill the fantasy portrait of success that he and his parents have cultivated for the past four years. Four years of academic achievement. Four years of debate championships. Two years of dating the most popular girl in school. It was, literally, everything his parents could have wanted. Everything they wanted for Higgs's older brother Jeffrey, in fact. But something's not right. And when Higgs's girlfriend presents him with a seemingly innocent hypothetical question about whether or not he'd give her a kidney . . . the exposed fault lines reach straight down to the foundations of his life. . . .

I am looking for recommendations about people with kidney problems. Since the beginning of this middle finger year, I've gone through kidney disorder that just won't quit; and I'd like to read about some other people. Any books sent this way will be most appreciated.

haileybean @NovelGirl82, I have Minimal Change Disease. I was diagnosed back in February and have relapsed twice. This is the last time I can be on steroids. So I'm looking for ANY kind of good information. 7y
haileybean Thanks @BookishMarginalia and @DebinHawaii for the hugs 🤗 7y
EloisaJames Just s thought--my daughter has chronic kidney disease and it has helped incredibly to drop red meat dnc go mostly vegetarian.. Drs thought it would do anything g but they've eaten their words! 7y
haileybean @EloisaJames actually, I am a vegetarian. That's one thing that's been helpful because I've been put on and off of a low sodium diet. Cutting out meat hasn't been an issue. 7y
NovelGirl82 Have they tried other immunosuppressants? Why are they saying that this is the last time that you can be on steroids? 7y
haileybean No, I've only been on steroids + other medications to combat the side effects of them. I haven't tried any other medications. The Nephrologist said we can only do steroids so many times and that after the initial diagnosis + 2 relapses that we'd try transplant medications, which sounds terrifying. 7y

Mehso-so

My teen book club gave The Kidney Hypothetical a so-so. I'd agree. But so-so books often make for the best discussions. I started book club at #secretgardenbooks 4 years ago and still have the same kids coming every month. ❤️ And it means I still have access to the galley shelf (pictured above 😍).

EliseWhitmore I agree. Sometimes it's the uneven books that give you more to discuss 8y
