The plot of Secret History is secondary to the amazing way Tartt writes. Every page is worth reading

BookBabe Awesome! Excited to read this when my huge TBR pile lets me. 😛 8y

After reading Heart is a Lonely Hunter years ago I wasn't expecting much out of Wedding. But the frustrated thoughts and feelings of 12 yr old Frankie felt very real. A classic who's theme of being an outsider is still very relevant

3/4 the way through this amazingness! Must. Read. Faster.

jessberk13 I didn't get past the first 20 or so pages the first time. Maybe I'll have to give it another go... 8y
Yournewfriendsam @jessica I had trouble with this one in the beginning too but it was really worth it in the end. This one may have stuck with me even more than The Goldfinch 8y
Gayan I really love this one. I think I'll read it again. 8y

All I can say is if you haven't read this book you are missing out. Funny & informative. I feel I can now liven up any party. Bonus points for the vocal stylings of Shelly Frasier on the audio book. She is a perfect fit.

MrBook Nice! I was debating whether to listen to it or just go the old-fashioned route. 8y
EliseWhitmore @AliceInWonderLibrary Thank you for reminding me about Working Stiff! I have heard good things and have officially added it to the TBR pile 📚 8y

Why, oh why did I wait so long to discover to hilarity of Mary Roach? If she can make dead bodies this funny I can't wait to read Bonk 🙊

EliseWhitmore @ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled.com I have a feeling most of her books are good. Do you know if any are just meh? 8y
ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled Ive liked every one Ive read (havent read Gulp, in my TBR). I think Stiff and Spook were my favorites. Bonk was really good too! Curious to get her most recent one - Grunt. I don't think you can go wrong w any of them. 8y

I don't think I'm cut out for mysteries. I spend so much time on the plausibility of the plot that I just don't enjoy the book for what it is 🕵 No Colonel Mustard, and let me tell you why...

Joe_Jones Oh no! That is one of the classics too. I bet we can find out a mystery you like. There are so many different kinds. Don't give up on them! 8y
EliseWhitmore @Joe_Jones That's what I thought! If I can't get into Christie's best am I hopeless? The closest I have gotten is Gone Girl. I LOVED that there were no loose ends 8y
Joe_Jones @EliseWhitmore you like psychological thrillers then. Have you read Girl on the Train? A good match if you liked Gone Girl. Another good one coming out soon is The Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware. 8y
QueenAnne @Joe_Jones Girl on the Train was a very good read! Really liked the suspence on that one! 8y
EliseWhitmore @Joe_Jones I did like Girl on the Train! You are good at this game 😀 Cabin 10 now added to my TBR 8y

I haven't gotten much reading done this vacation, but did visit the second largest library in the U.S. today 💁 Go Boston Public! I think this is my new Bucket List, 'Famous Libraries of America'

LiteraryinPA Beautiful! It's always memorable to visit libraries on vacation. For me, it's independent bookstores! 8y

Single-serving Wheat Thins & and a single-serving book. They should go great w/ my new single-serving friends. It's always a good time for a Fight Club reference 😝👊

erzascarletbookgasm One of my favourite Christie. Love the latest BBC adaptation, too! 9y
Jamesmelvinmitchell That is my favorite Christie book. 9y

🌟🌟🌟🌟 4 out of 5 stars. Darkly funny, yet light and quirky. Quick read make me giggle. 🐀

mcctrish This book was nuts, just like Dewitt's earlier The Sister Brothers. Such awesome dark humour! 9y

Bailedbailed

Had to bail on the audiobook. I just could not get past the voice of the girl. It sounded like her nose was broken. Maybe I will try reading the rest. The story was interesting enough. Much the same device as The Good Girl

This book was very heartfelt and touching. Until the end...You know the feeling like the author just got bored w/ the story? Happy to say I have enjoyed her other books much more. This one, not so much 😒

I thought this book was beautifully written. I wasn't sold on it from the description, but the action pales in comparison to the feelings it produces. The human interaction that occurs is lovely.

LiteraryinPA My sister recommended this to me and it just came in at my local indie bookstore. I'm glad to hear good things about it! 8y
EliseWhitmore @LiteraryinLititz I wish Litsy had a 'Love' button for this book. Let me know what you think 😊 8y
ultrabookgeek This is one of my all time favorites! I re-read once a year and it always makes me feel lighter inside somehow. 8y
