I read this one two years ago in print; but decided I needed a refresher before I head into, ‘The Secret Pilgrim‘.
Ned, who is the desk guy handling the inquiry as to the credibility of information received from the USSR, is really a background or secondary character in this story. But his is the voice of the *next* book— so I‘m paying more attention to him this time around!
My buy-in to le Carré‘s world is always complete so while others might consider this a lesser novel of his, I‘m giving it an admittedly biased 5-Star rating!
Written in 1989 before the Iron Curtain fell, le Carré‘s acuity and sensitivity to thawing Cold War tensions is remarkably prescient.
Also, I raised an eyebrow at the placement of Mr. Connery‘s hand upon Ms Pfeiffer‘s person ✋??
Tons of stuff in my reading queue, but this battered old 1990 mass paperback calls to me today! 🙂
I‘m back from my trip! I didn‘t go to #Russia but it felt like it because of phone issues. So no map and no pictures, and worst of all no Litsy. 😕 Nonetheless it was nice to get away, and now it‘s nice to be home with phone issues resolved.

This was #MountTBRChallenge book Number 66. As well as part of 2018 The Year of Le Carre. It was also book Number 100 for my goodreads Challenge.
This is the next book in the LeCarre read-a-thon. Hopefully it will turn out well.
This is all I could think of for #backintheussr and I read it so long ago that I hardly remember anything about it except that I liked it. Also, the lovely Michelle Pfeiffer is in the movie. #rockinmay
So far it's 11 boxes and totes. And I still have five book cases to empty out. I hate to think of how many boxes I'll need for all of the VHS and DVD's.
