The Cry | Helen FitzGerald
7 posts | 11 read | 6 to read
The Cry was longlisted for the Theakstons Old Peculier Crime Novel of the Year Award. When a baby goes missing on a lonely roadside in Australia, it sets off a police investigation that will become a media sensation and dinner-table talk across the world. Lies, rumours and guilt snowball, causing the parents, Joanna and Alistair, to slowly turn against each other. Finally Joanna starts thinking the unthinkable: could the truth be even more terrible than she suspected? And what will it take to make things right? Perfect for fans of Julia Crouch, Sophie Hannah and Laura Lippman, The Cry was widely acclaimed as one of the best psychological thrillers of the year. There's a gripping moral dilemma at its heart and characters who will keep you guessing on every page.

It‘s a dark, psychological thriller with a gripping moral dilemma, perfect for anyone who enjoys a story about good people doing bad things. I really want to emphasise that The Cry isn‘t just for thriller readers; anyone who likes ethical grey areas and/or the complexity of modern families will rip through it. Absolutely devastating story line, it made me so anxious I couldn't sleep and ended up reading it in a night. But a brilliant novel about the loss of a baby and a controlling partner. Not recommended for new mums for sure...

The Cry | Helen FitzGerald

There was a long silence before she said: “This is wrong. I‘m not going to do it.” Alistair sat on the bed beside her and held her hand. “We lost our son. We don‘t deserve to lose everything else as well. It‘s not wrong. We‘re not hurting anyone.”‘

After watching the BBC four part miniseries I had to get my hands on the book. A quick easy read, I finished this in one sitting. Loved the show, loved the book. Definitely worth the read ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Oh this book started so so amazing and so drama filled and way messed up, I loved every minute of it but ..... the second half was just a mess so many things left unanswered and just the ending was just horrible. The second half felt very rushed to me and just lost interest.

Enjoyed this one. Know it's a good book when I look forward to reading it. A baby boy goes missing on a quiet road in Australia, the story follows the police inquiry and the parents guilt.
