Go Show the World
Go Show the World: A Celebration of Indigenous Heroes | Wab Kinew
9 posts | 5 read | 4 to read
"We are a people who matter." Inspired by President Barack Obama's Of Thee I Sing, Go Show the World is a tribute to historic and modern-day Indigenous heroes, featuring important figures such as Tecumseh, Sacagawea and former NASA astronaut John Herrington. Celebrating the stories of Indigenous people throughout time, Wab Kinew has created a powerful rap song, the lyrics of which are the basis for the text in this beautiful picture book, illustrated by the acclaimed Joe Morse. Including figures such as Crazy Horse, Net-no-kwa, former NASA astronaut John Herrington and Canadian NHL goalie Carey Price, Go Show the World showcases a diverse group of Indigenous people in the US and Canada, both the more well known and the not- so-widely recognized. Individually, their stories, though briefly touched on, are inspiring; collectively, they empower the reader with this message: "We are people who matter, yes, it's true; now let's show the world what people who matter can do."

Go Show the World was published in 2018 this book celebrates stories of Indigenous people (biography) throughout history. Including individuals from the US and Canada, Crazy Horse, Net-no-kwa, former NASA astronaut John Herrington and Canadian NHL goalie Carey Price. I would recommend this book to upper elementary grades as it touches on topics that are very relevant and important.

This short picture book introduces the reader to historical and more modern day Native American heroes and encourages children to go show the world what they can do too. Look closely at the beautiful illustrations.

I‘m ashamed to say I didn‘t know who half of these brave, inspiring, and accomplished people are. Wab talks about indigenous people, past and present, who have made a difference in Canada, the US and the world. Fantastic

“You‘re a person who matters.
Yes, it‘s true.
Now go show the world what a person who matters can do.”

Thirteen indigenous people are featured in this beautiful look at heroes past and present. This would be a great book for grade-schoolers, especially since it shows modern heroes as well as historical heroes.

An oversize #picturebook that celebrates the lives of 13 North American Indigenous heroes from the 18th through the 21st centuries, in brief biographies. The repeated message to young readers is that Indigenous people matter and “Let‘s show the world what people who matter can do.” Author Wab Kinew & illustrator Joe Morse are both #Indigenous. The rhyming text & the art are lacklustre, yet the honest pride comes through lovely & strong. All ages.

I like everything about this #picturebook… except the somewhat dreary illustrations and the clunky rhyming prose: “Under starry nights west Sacagawea led
Lewis and Clark, so America could spread.
Plus she healed them when they were almost dead.
The men got the credit, but should she have instead?”
Hmmm. How to review this #Indigenous book fairly?

Lindy @CouronneDhiver @batsy I noticed after I took the photo that the top and bottom books both have ‘world‘ in the title. (There‘s a world of reading in between those two.) 6y
