Pigman (Turtleback School & Library, Revised) | Paul Zindel
11 posts | 67 read | 10 to read
The Pigman is Paul Zindel's groundbreaking, bestselling tour de force, now available in a teen trim size with striking new cover art. Publishers Weekly called The Pigman "remarkable. Zindel has written a story that will not be denied." This funny, sad, and unforgettable tale about two disillusioned teenagers who have their faith in humanity restored by a lonely, eccentric stranger is a timeless classic that new generations of readers will cherish. It's an uneventful September afternoon when sophomores John and Lorraine make a prank call to a stranger named Angelo Pignati. But the two of them aren't prepared to be so touched by the old man whose loneliness reaches out to them through the phone line. And what starts as a practical joke quickly turns into a friendship that changes all of their lives forever.

Yo. I read this book for the first time in fifth grade I think. When I read it back then I thought it was the saddest book on earth. When I reread it as a 21 year old I still thought it was the saddest book ever. Just so heartbreakingly tragic. I think this is one of the first books I remember crying myself to sleep over. I remember reading it on the school bus and crying too. So sad

Randomly remembered reading this for class in junior high school. Became obsessed with the idea of revisiting it.

Another favorites of mine growing up! This book written by Paul Zindel was on my reading list going into the 6th grade. I remember randomly getting this one from the library and fell in love with the story. It is about two sophomores John and Lorraine who are troubled until they meet an old man name Mr. Pignati! There are other books in the series including one with other characters! You‘ll see John and Lorraine again though! Best for 6-8th grade!

Gabylaurel10 Seems like an interesting book to read! 6y
AmyPerezCubas For the activity with this book, my activities would be small group discussions and asking questions. With this book we are able to talk about the meaning of the book. 6y

The ending made me hate this book but I guess that just shows how well this book did to make me care so much for what happens to all the characters

My aunt was telling me about this book at Christmas, so I read it. It just might be the most depressing coming of age story I‘ve ever read. Very well written, it tells the story of two young teens who inadvertently befriend a lonely old man. Disregard this ugly cover - it has been republished with a much nicer one!

Bookwm85forever I remember reading this book years ago!!! 7y
Sarahreadstoomuch Really @Bookwm85forever ? That‘s awesome! I‘d never heard of it before my aunt brought it up. She read it because it is now assigned reading in the school where she works. 7y

Listening to an A. S. King lecture and she mentions this author repeatedly. Very, very good. See more Zindel books in my future. 4/5
