The Itchy Book! By Levyen Pham and Mo Willems is a fun fantasy sci-fi picture book that is promoted by Mo Willems‘ Elephant and Piggie like reading! This book would be fun to read aloud or even to do readers theater. https://sites.google.com/view/lae3414/readers-theater You can follow along with the dinosaurs to see how itchy they can get! This book lines up with the UDL strategy 3.2 because it does have a repetitive nature of saying

Gabylaurel10 “Dinosaurs don‘t scratch” Thus allowing students to read chorally with you! This picture book is also perfect for the ESOL strategy 17 especially with readers theater by providing visuals and physical activity when they present! #UCFLAE3414SuB18 6y
ERodriguez This book seems great for readers theatre. 6y
SierraC The books looks so fun! I want to check it out for my classroom library! 6y
DrSpalding I have not seen this one and love the idea of using it for readers theater. Beautifully aligned to the EL strategy number 17! 6y

Above is my visuals used for when I did a story telling https://sunflowerstorytime.files.wordpress.com/2011/09/there-was-an-old-lady1.pd... The Day the Crayons Quit by Drew Dewalt and illustrated by Oliver Jeffers is a E. b. White Read Aloud Award wining modern fantasy picture book. All of Duncan‘s crayons go on strike leaving him hilarious notes for their reasoning. This book is well suited for many different grade levels from kindergarten with learning colors to high school learning about unions and what strikes are.

Gabylaurel10 Some activities that can be used is teaching sentence completion with fill in the blanks which would be good with the ESOL strategy 3 of positive thinking. There‘s also persuasive writing activities that allows older kids to learn how to write. I Got Two Dogs by John Lithgow and illustrated by Robert Neubecker is a poetry biography picture book about John Lithgow‘s two dogs Fanny and Blue. The book is about the tail (haha get it) of two dogs and all the stuff they get into and how much he loves them both! This book would be fun to do literacy centers with it for learning poetry! https://www.kindergartenworks.com/common-core-standards/po-et-tree/

Gabylaurel10 This book can line up with UDL principle 1.1 because you can also listen to this book in a YouTube read aloud with the author or on CD as a song! This picture book also lines up with the ESOL strategy 14 with speaking slowly! #UCFLAE3414SuB18 6y

Do Unto Otters: A book About Manners by Laurie Keller is a fantasy Bank Street Best Children‘s Book of the Year picture book. This book would be excellent in any classroom library even in the secondary levels! This book goes and talk about different mannerisms and how to treat people which anyone at any age might need some help with especially younger kids and older ones might need some reminding 😉

Gabylaurel10 An activity that would best suit this book would be teaching about the Golden Rule especially in the beginning of the school year to create the classroom rules along with creating a positive and friendly classroom community. http://character.org/lessons/lesson-plans/elementary/plattin-primary-school-2/ 6y
Gabylaurel10 This book lines up with UDL strategy 3.1 of activating prior knowledge because the kids should have basic knowledge of having some manners and with 3.2 of highlighting patterns and critical features. This book also works well with ESOL strategy 4 which also goes into detail about prior knowledge. #UCFLAE3414SuB18 6y

Once I picked up this book it was hard for me to put down! This book would be great for anyone‘s classroom library! The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate is a Newbery Award winning biography fiction novel. I‘d say this book is a biography because Ivan is a real gorilla and it is his story along with it being fiction because he can‘t talk. This book would be perfect to use during LC.

Gabylaurel10 https://sites.google.com/view/lae3414/literature-circles?authuser=0 This book also lines up with UDL principle 4.1 especially if you decide to either do traditional LC or allow students to do digital LC or even a mixed mode. Who Wants a Cheap Rhinoceros written and illustrated by Shel Silverstein is a modern fantasy picture book. A boy is selling his rhinoceros and is telling us about all the wonderful things they can do to help out around the house. I thought this book was okay, but I do think it would be good for a RA because students might laugh at all the silly things the rhino can do.

Gabylaurel10 http://www.shelsilverstein.com/learning/ I think a fun activity would be to allow students to come up with other fun ways for the rhino to help out around the house, or maybe even what other animals would be fun to have around the house. The UDL principle 2.1 of teaching vocabulary would be good to use with this book. Along with ESOL strategy 5 that also works with teaching vocabulary. #UCFLAE3414SuB18 6y
ERodriguez I have not read the book , but surely will . Sounds like a great book to encourage children to help at home . Great activity, it would be cool to see how many student like to help around the house. 6y

What Was the March on Washington by Kathleen Krull and illustrated by Tim Tomkinson is a nonfiction chapter book that would be perfect for GR or even LC. https://www.scholastic.com/teachers/books/what-was-the-march-on-washington-by-ka... By having questions for the students to answer while they read is so important to always set a purpose for reading. Having the “what was” and “who was” books in your classroom library

Gabylaurel10 Is perfect for students to be able to learn more about social studies in a fun way that also endorses reading! The UDL principle 3.3 of guiding informations would be perfect with a guided reading lesson. The Umbrella is New York Times Children‘s Picture Book Bestseller List winner. It‘s a low fantasy picture book. Carlos goes into the cloud forest to go see the many different animals and leaves behind his umbrella as he climbs a tree. The animals jump in and go on an adventure. I think this book would be great addition to your classroom library. I would use this book as either a DR or a RT.

Gabylaurel10 http://www.janbrett.com/the_umbrella_play.htm This books lines up perfectly with UDL principles of 1.1, 1.2, and 1.3 of offering different ways to display auditory and visual information, especially if doing an RT. Since there is some Spanish in the book giving the Spanish speaking character to an Hispanic ESOL students will help them feel comfortable reading aloud along with ESOL strategy 4 of linking prior knowledge! #UCFLAE3414SuB18 6y
DrSpalding Technically this is traditional literature. This is Brett‘s version of the mitten but set in the Amazon rain forest. Having books with Spanish words embedded much like the Skippy books, are beneficial to your classroom library. 6y

Unwind by Neal Shusterman is a SF novel and ALA Best Book for Young Adults winner. This book is about a boy named Connor and how he must deal with the fact that his parents are sending him to be unwound. The setting is in the future after a civil war where children can be sent to “harvesting camps” where their organs are donated and they will live on forever through their donated organs.

Gabylaurel10 Although the book seems creepy, it is a really good read that would be perfect for high school students to do an LC with. http://www.litcircles.org/Overview/overview.html This book lined up with UDL principles 4.1 and 4.2 of having vary methods for response and optimize access to tools and assistive technologies. Skippyjon Jones is a E. B. White Read Aloud award winning book written and illustrated by Judy Schachner. I would consider this book to be both P and F because of SkippyJon Jones the talking Siamese cat along with the words all rhyming together and the book having such a fun rhythm to it. I think this book would be perfect for RA. I didn‘t know it had a lot of Spanish in it so it would be perfect with Spanish ESOL students.

Gabylaurel10 Again I think this book would be great with teaching some Spanish words! http://www.skippyjonjones.com/teachers.php There‘s an activity on here that helps students match the English to the Spanish word. This is perfect for UDL principle 8.3 of building a community because it allows for ESOL students to feel comfortable. It would then work really well with the ESOL strategy 12 because it is teaching native speakers Spanish and nonnative speakers 6y

This book also has excellent vocabulary and teaches about Algonquin culture!

Gabylaurel10 http://stepinto2ndgrade.com/the-rough-face-girl/ The UDL Principle 2.1 and EL strategy 5 work well with this book because they both focus on teaching the students new vocabulary. #UCFLAE3414SuB18 6y
