Created the year following his most famous work, Anxiety can be viewed as a companion piece to The Scream. Several physical elements from The Scream reappear in Anxiety & as noted by the official Munch site: “the sentiment of angst in this work is even more sustained, if less piercing, than in The Scream, since its desperation is here borne by a group rather than by an isolated individual.“. I am intrigued by the tagged study.

I didn‘t know much about Munch and his art beyond The Scream before this book. I wouldn‘t say I‘m an expert now, but I‘m closer to understanding the artist‘s mind through Knausgaard‘s musings. This book was a journey through memory, longing, melancholy. Weaving between Knausgaard‘s own projects and Munch‘s art, this book takes you straight to the heart of what it means to be a human being in the world. I alternated between audio and print.

I didn't like the book. I thought I was learning something about Munch, but the book is more about Knausgard and his projects. First finished book for #24B4Monday 😉

I learned something about Munch at least. Love Karl's writing but parts of this were lost on me. The combination of author and artist makes this a bit heavy on the introspective. Made me think too hard!
