“A is for architecture.”
I think this book Sparks captivity and really encourages children to see letters in their everyday lives. It can be a great book to teach about language and also art.

This Caldecott Honor RA-NF story shows that actions really do speak louder than words🤐 This is a great picture book for young students looking to find beauty in the world while also learning the alphabet. UDL principle 1.1 is used: Offer ways of customizing the display of information. Students can shout aloud where they see the letters in the pictures- a great engagement activity for kindergarten. #UCFLAE3414SP21
I would show this to a kindergarten class because most have just mastered the alphabet, and will probably have the most fun with this book. You can do so many activities with this book afterwards as well! For example, kids can get creative and design the first letter of their names. This is also a great opportunity to learn more about urban landscapes.
Alphabet City by Stephen Johnson, 1995. Caldecott Honor. This book is a series of Urban pictures that represent a letter in the alphabet. Kids will have a lot of fun finding the letter in each picture!
I would love to bring this book to the CDC for rug time and have the children try and find each letter on the page!

I love how unique this book is! Instead of just writing out the letter, it shows all the different places you can find letters!
My favorite page shows rust in a unique way and I think the illustrator did a wonderful job creating this effect.
I loved the city use of objects and daily visuals to be used as letter in the alphabet. This is a very creative and stylistic choice that the reader will have to pay close attention to. I think it is great that children will have to use their imagination and truly explore the pages in depth.
Great book to help kids learn the alphabet and stretch their imagination about everyday objects.
Caldecott honor book, 1995. Picture book of everyday objects that make each letter of the alphabet. Beautiful pictures that fill the pages and show a lot of detail. Makes you look at everyday objects differently.
