Pickpick

Lennon's "Broken River" struck me as a really special novel, full of offbeat humor. The Funnies contains plenty of said humor, usually via striking character descriptions & observations of behavior that is slightly surreal, yet entirely believable. The narrator, Tim Mix, returns home after his father has passed away. His father was the creator of Family Funnies (think Family Circus) & whereas the comic strip portrays an All-American Family, the ?

vivastory Mix clan are deeply dysfunctional. Carl's will leaves the rights to the comic strip & its merchandise to Tim if he is able to complete a week of strips fit for publication. Lennon treats the subject of artistic ability & comic strips in a satisfyingly complex way. He demonstrates that it takes a lot of practice & skill, yet he bemoans the frequent cheap humor employed. Highly recommend, esp fans of The Animators &/or Amazing Adventures of K & C. 5y

This made me laugh, especially since I have noticed an inexplicable Perrier prevalence amongst my colleagues.
