The Tunnel
The Tunnel | Ernesto Sábato
One of the great short novels of the twentieth century—in an edition marking the 100th anniversary of the author's birth. An unforgettable psychological novel of obsessive love, The Tunnel was championed by Albert Camus, Thomas Mann, and Graham Greene upon its publication in 1948 and went on to become an international bestseller. At its center is an artist named Juan Pablo Castel, who recounts from his prison cell his murder of a woman named María Iribarne. Obsessed from the moment he sees her examining one of his paintings, Castel fantasizes for months about how they might meet again. When he happens upon her one day, a relationship develops that convinces him of their mutual love. But Castel's growing paranoia leads him to destroy the one thing he truly cares about. For more than sixty-five years, Penguin has been the leading publisher of classic literature in the English-speaking world. With more than 1,500 titles, Penguin Classics represents a global bookshelf of the best works throughout history and across genres and disciplines. Readers trust the series to provide authoritative texts enhanced by introductions and notes by distinguished scholars and contemporary authors, as well as up-to-date translations by award-winning translators. From the Trade Paperback edition.

Pablo Castel is infatuated. He analyses the world at a rate of knots, leaping from one conclusion to the next as his own mind becomes the undoing of his relationship. One of those books where I find it hard to empathise with the protagonist, a slow start but by the final chapters it was difficult to put down. (Read in Spanish) 5/10

If you have to read a book set in #Argentina / by an Argentinian author, look no further than this, the only novel assigned in any of my high school Spanish classes that I actually read! âï¸âï¸âï¸âï¸âï¸

My mother tongue is spanish and I do try to alternate, reading spanish and english (now also venturing but with much less confidence into french). I read this major Latin American literature classic in school quite a few years back, so I barely remember any of it. On my #TBR for next year. #seasonsreadings2016 #notinenglish 🇦🇷 📚

I was browsing the Spanish language fiction section in the library today and stumbled over this gem. Unfortunately, my Spanish is still too bad to actually read a whole book.

Scrittura esistenzialista purissima come suggerì Camus a Gallimard consigliandone la traduzione in francese. Più di un romanzo, una ipnotica catena di allitterazioni emotive
