This was hard, but it has been so fun reading everyone else's - I felt I should return the favour!

Bit of a crime thriller now. Never read any Jo Nesbo - thoughts?

Due to demands on my time from competition training at the gym, I ended up taking a very long and sad break from reading. After many, many months - I finally finished!

My comments on Shadow of Night stand here as well; the first half of the Book of Life is a long ol' slog - a little talky for me. The second half had me HOOKED though. Could not put it down!

A little part of my fantasy-obsessed teenage self cried with delight. Such a good ending.

Hey #littens long time no see! Back to the library finally. My sister loaned me this, insisting I read it - she's good at recommending things.

Reminded me of Michael Frayn's Spies, but with an LGBTQ twist - which I appreciate. Think I fell in love with Jean and Lydia too.

A quick speed read of an old favourite to send me off to sleep.

I cannot begin to describe how much I am enjoying this book. Sinister and so very sad, but so beautifully written and I could listen to Toni Morrison read all day. Halfway through!

I do like a full English, especially when endorsed by dead authors.

First time reading a Karin Slaughter, and I enjoyed it immensely. Granted, I guessed the ending about halfway through but actually this didn't dampen the big reveal because it just made me want to get to the end quicker to find out!

Bit grim, and not the most thrilling story, but suitably entertaining and would definitely read more of hers. Alas, no Heathcliff though. Or Kate Bush. 6/10.

A fascinating insight into the birth of Chester Zoo, by the daughter of the founder. Reading about how the zoo coped during the Blitz and the personalities of all the animals is just wonderful - especially if lions are your favourite animal, like me!

I'm never sure how I feel about zoos but I must admit that Chester Zoo has a special place in my heart, so this was lovely to read. 8/10

Bit of retail therapy needed this morning to soothe my clouds. Thank goodness for the charity bookshop thirty seconds from my house.

Looking forward to these!

New audiobook for cleaning this month. Toni Morrison has the most soothing voice and so far, really enjoying it.

I'll admit this was a long ol' slog. Deborah Harkness reminds me of Tolkien a bit in that she writes in extreme detail about the nitty-gritty which can get tiresome.

HOWEVER, I'm glad I persevered because for all of my issues with the length, the universe is so well realised and exciting and every time she drops a new surprise, I found myself gripping the pages a bit tighter. Can't wait to read the next instalment! 7/10

Work stress and black dogs. I carry around a model of my daemon as an anchor. Anyone else know what theirs is?

Much to my delight, my patronus on Pottermore is also a leopard - surely too much of a coincidence.

Argh. Argh argh argh. Proper good and disturbing horror, this. The description is absolutely vile. I loved it.

The best horrors are the ones that make you feel cold.

After reading Gone Girl and being so angered and impressed by the ending, whilst I enjoyed this one immensely, I confess I saw what was coming a mile off and so was maybe a bit disappointed?

The journey there however, was intense and gripping and I really found myself identifying with the narrator in some places. Couldn't put it down! A solid 7/10.

I am enjoying the comments on sexism and feminism in this book. I hate having the first one thrown at me when I say I don't want children and the second is hugely relevant.

Fourth book of my holiday, about to begin. Oh, the places I'll go!

Well, I'm not sure what to say. Utterly vile and completely engrossing. Couldn't put it down, just through sheer morbid curiosity. Reads like a science fiction, like the private thoughts of a mad teenager stuck on Mars, but horrifyingly real and not really another planet but an island in Scotland.

Bleurgh. I loved it!

Such a refreshing and delightful story, with a diverse and rich universe. The story is somewhat disjointed in places and some characters not as well-rounded as I would like, but enjoyable nonetheless. A nice speedy read, think Firefly, Farscape, even a bit Star Trek Discovery.

Kind of in love with Sissex the Aandrisk. She is so lovely.

Even though I already knew the ending, this was just lovely. Easy to read, characters sympathetic but flawed (as they should be) and it broke my heart in all the best ways.

Will definitely be giving Miller's new one 'Circe' a look, and lending it to @aimelou26 as repayment for this loan!

(Also, holidays are always the best places to read. Early morning sunrise, and a story)

Started my holiday reading on the drive down. So refreshing to read something like this.

Going on holiday on Saturday. Having that age old argument - how many books is too many books for a week away?

Used to get into some bitter fights with my mum. Apparently ten was too many one year.

My favourite poem. So soft and gentle.

'Me gustas cuando callas' or 'I like you calm'.

Absolutely adored this story. Think Jane Austen style period drama meets high fantasy; dragons with a class system, ladies with scales that blush pink when they're betrothed, duels and treasure hoards and high society.

Also, if Sher Benandi ever decides he would rather be human than a 60 foot bronze gentrified dragon, I am single and available.

The soundtrack to my cleaning this week. Finished the last one far too quickly so had to buy another one that was on sale...ooooops.

On the plus side, this has been on my #tbr for ages. Spoopy spook.

Humble bundles are the best. Humble bundles with Chuck Tingle in are better. This one is 'Pounded by the Pound: Turned Gay by the Socio-Economic Implications of Britain Leaving the European Union'

As a proud Remainer, this has made me howl with laughter. Monetary unit touch.

I love disgusting literature, because amongst the violence and perversion and bodily fluids, there is always some wisdom to be found.

Never listened to an audiobook before, and forgot how much I enjoy crime novels. Absolutely hooked.

(Side note: Richard Armitage, be still my beating heart!)

Started my birthday re-read and re-watch of my Tolkien collection today.

This was the story that showed me the way to Middle Earth. A little children's story about a dog and his adventures in space and under the sea. Eight year old me read this countless times.
