I would use this book in my classroom to help my students better understand history through the lens of Eleanor Roosevelt's life. Hopefully my students can somehow connect and/ or learn how to use their voice to be heard.

Eleanor, Quiet No More written by Doreen Rappaport. This book followed the life of Eleanor Roosevelt, starting off sad and lonely but ended with her using her power and courageous heart and voice. This book will educate and help my students understand the past by learning women's rights and the evolution of how women's voices have been viewed throughout the years.

A great book about a first lady breaking social norms- being involved, an ambassador, and a civil rights activist. At this time, women were not supposed to intervene like she did and it shows her courage and how she fought sexism. She changed the course of the position of the first lady forever. Great for children to learn about overcoming challenges like sexism using direct quotes and great illustrations.

ELEANOR, Quiet No More by Doreen Rappaort (biography, published 2009) is about the life of FDR's wife, Eleanor. Growing up she found happiness in books because her mother made fun of her for enjoying reading- as it wasn't common at this time. Her intelligence and love for books led her to her future husband FDR & to teaching children to read in New York. She became the first lady and was extremely controversial because she broke the social norms.

However, she was strong and able to overcome these struggles. She met Franklin whom she became happily married to and extremely supportive as he ran for political positions.

She once again incorporates real-life quotes into the writing, and captures the legacy of Eleanor Roosevelt. This biography illustrates the positive and impactful actions Eleanor took to help teach children in low income areas. She was an advocate for civil rights and this is a great person for young kids to learn about.

However she still spoke up to change things that needed changing and help those that needed helping.
