Wow. I‘m floored by the low rating on this. If this is my intro to Lauren Groff, I‘m in for a(n intense) treat.

This was pure, tangible anxiety & panic put on a page. Both relatable & all-consuming. It triggered an intense feeling of empathy because I know people like Ange. Sometimes I feel just like Ange. The world we live in is so interconnected and sometimes the selfishness is astounding.

An Amazon Original short story about a woman, Ange, finding something disturbing while performing a clean up at the beach. She then struggles with insomnia which impacts her job and taking care of her daughter. Ange spirals into paranoia as reads about predicted changes in the earth and how that may impact Florida and consequently her daughter‘s future. I usually love Groff‘s writing, but this story didn‘t do much for me.

I do like Groff‘s writing, but this story felt too messy. I also found the main character incredibly annoying, and thought the cli-fi aspect felt awkward.
