Everybody's Got Something
Everybody's Got Something | Veronica Chambers, Robin Roberts
8 posts | 11 read | 2 to read
"Regardless of how much money you have, your race, where you live, what religion you follow, you are going through something. Or you already have or you will. As momma always said, "Everybody's got something." So begins beloved Good Morning America anchor Robin Roberts's new memoir in which she recounts the incredible journey that's been her life so far, and the lessons she's learned along the way. With grace, heart, and humor, she writes about overcoming breast cancer only to learn five years later that she will need a bone marrow transplant to combat a rare blood disorder, the grief and heartbreak she suffered when her mother passed away, her triumphant return to GMA after her medical leave, and the tremendous support and love of her family and friends that saw her through her difficult times. Following her mother's advice to "make your mess your message," Robin taught a nation of viewers that while it is true that we've all got something -- a medical crisis to face, aging parents to care for, heartbreak in all its many forms --- we've also all got something to give: hope, encouragement, a life-saving transplant or a spirit-saving embrace. As Robin has learned, and what readers of her remarkable story will come to believe as well, it's all about faith, family and friends. And finding out that you are stronger, much stronger, than you think.

Listened to this on audible. I know I wouldn‘t have loved it as much without hearing Robins fight with her bone marrow transplant without it coming from her own words. I just love her faith and her love of her family. I loved her stories about her mom. Great listen.

I'm listening to the audiobook and feel bad for wishing someone other than Robin Roberts had narrated it.

Megabooks Sometimes authors just aren't good narrators. 7y
MoniqueReads305 @Ebooksandcooks You are right. I had high hopes for get narration... so disappointed. 7y
Donna_sBookMinute I've had the same experience -- about a really popular book. I switched to the print version and was blown away. It is a kind of bad feeling. But @Ebooksandcooks is right. All authors aren't narrators. They should leave it to the pros. I just posted a review of a narrator. They know what they're doing. It's not just reading. 7y

Donna_sBookMinute One author who did an excellent job of narrating her own book is Leah Remini in "Troublemaker." Although she's not the author, Sissy Spacek's narration of "To Kill a Mockingbird" also comes to mind. I mention Spacek's because I don't think it's a coincidence that they're both actresses. And no, all actors don't make good narrators. 7y
MoniqueReads305 @Donna_sBookMinute The members of my book club that read the book enjoyed it b more than the people that listened to the audiobook. You can definitely tell that she is a television news personality by her narrations. It's disappointing because her story should have made me feel more emotions. 7y
RadicalReader @MoniqueReads305 so awesome to have iPod touches for this very reason to allow for listening on the go and keeping other things that aren‘t books separate from those that are 6y
MoniqueReads305 @RadicalReader I love my iPod Touch. I only use it for audiobooks, music, and podcast. It's a great way to preserve my cellphone battery while I'm commuting to work or running errands around town. 6y
RadicalReader @MoniqueReads305 iPod battery is phenomenal too love how you can get them for cheap on amazon! 6y

I am an unabashed ABC News fan girl. I am also NOT a morning person. In fact, I can be downright hostile in the a.m. But every morning these 2 fierce, fabulous women remind me how lucky I am (knocks wood) and how even people who have been dealt an absolutely shit hand can overcome, thrive, and inspire with grace and positivity. #photoadaynov16 #inspiring

this was an enjoyable read, especially since I work for a local abc affiliate. It was fascinating to read what was going on behind the scenes. all the family and personal stories were far more moving that I expected. Glad that I was able to read this one.

Her description of people owning how they handle their illness as their own hit home. So far, I like her authentic voice. (Listening to audio book)
