"Nathan thought her face would lift off her skull and float around the room with joy."
The first novel from the cinematic godfather of body-horror does not disappoint. Gruesome and erotic, the book hits all the highlights of Cronenberg's fascination with the human body and its fragility. Equally beautiful and horrifying.
This sentence pretty much sums up how I feel. I love Cronenberg's films, but this left me feeling flat. At times, its themes seem too obvious (consumerism = cannibalism) while its story is lacking in an ending or a truly compelling mystery.
Eating pancakes and reading about cannibal philosophers = perfect Friday morning.
Feels appropriate to read Cronenberg as I ride the train to my MRI.
