Limitless: A Novel | Alan Glynn

NOW A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE FROM RELATIVITY MEDIA A burnout at thirty-five, months behind on his book, low on cash, and something of a loser, Eddie Spinola could use a shot in the arm. One day he randomly runs into Vernon, his ex-wife's brother, and his ex-dealer. Now employed by a shadowy pharmaceutical company, Vernon has something that might help: a new designer drug that stimulates brain function. One pill and Eddie is hooked. His book is finished within days; he learns and synthesizes information at a frightening rate; and he can go a long time without sleep or food. Naturally, he begins to play the stock market. But when Vernon turns up dead, Eddie makes off with the only stash of the drug in existence. Then come the side effects: black-outs, blinding headaches, and violent outbursts he can't seem to remember. Alan Glynn's Limitless is a high-concept thriller for this Adderall age, and a haunting meditation on the allure and the curse of human potential.

I‘ve been leaving notes for my little sister @mimsyborogroves for most of our lives. It‘s only recently that we are reading similar books and I‘m so excited to be able to recommend things and hear about her thoughts! ♥️👯‍♀️

Holy crap you guys this book was KILLER. Fast paced, and a thoroughly enjoyable ride. As much as I enjoyed the movie, I found the book 100% more immersive and focused a lot more on the intricacies of the drug, which I enjoyed. Another thing that I enjoyed is that the book is set in mid 90‘s New York, which I, being born in 1994, never experienced, and in some ways feels just as exotic to me as England in 1500... #scifi

It‘s not like me to have multiple books on the go, but I felt the need for a break from my current #tome and this one has been calling my name! I remember really enjoying the movie, so I‘m excited for the book!

I guess this was originally released as "The Dark Fields," but after the release of the movie they reissued the book with the movie name. I think I saw the movie years ago, but I only vaguely remember it. I am fascinated by the premise, though, that a smart drug can help you reach your full potential. The author describes it as a Faustian pact, but I couldn't help being tempted by the idea. In the age of body hacks, this should be reality already.
