pick3rd time reading this series and I still just can‘t get enough
pickLaurence and Temeraire continue with the Russians after giving Napoleon a huge defeat, but the brilliant strategist makes it back to France. Then Temeraire and Iskierka discover that their egg has been stolen by the French. This ninth and final book in a sprawling series concerning fine continents series comes to a satisfying end as forces come together in a final battle against Napoleon. Enjoyable, though I don't think I'd feel a need to reread.
pickThis was a good end the series. It dragged a bit during the battles, but I liked how the author neatly wrapped up the conflict and wrote a history that was believable. I liked how each of the dragons has a very distinct personality, although I do have some trouble believing that Lawrence could also be so righteous in the face of so much atrocity. 3.5/5 stars, this book redeems the series and is a good read.
I‘ve had this on my shelf for two years, I‘ve put off reading it because the book before this one was AWFUL, but I‘m impressed with this one. Now I‘m dragging this out because I don‘t want to finish the series 😅
pickI'm sad to see the series end, though narrative-wise I agree it's time. This last book runs through character callbacks like they're going out of style. Novik skims or completely skips much of the fighting in this book, instead focusing on the sections in between. It was slightly jarring at first with the time jumps and "off-screen" battles, but it worked once I adjusted my expectations. The ending works for me. A good close to a fantastic series.
I‘ve had this one in the TBR pile for over a year now, and I think I‘m in a good place for something light and fun.
Started rereading (books 1-4) this series in the fall and I only have 200 pages left! I adore this series. While it certainly has its flaws, I like the original take on history and the characters are memorable. Plus, dragons. 😉

pickThere were some problems in terms of storytelling, but they're rather easy to forgive in light of everything else - especially the ending. An amazing conclusion to a series that is near and dear to my heart :).

My heart aches that this will be Temeraire and Laurence's last adventure, but I cannot wait to see what happens next. This is going to be one hell of a last ride.
